On
Monday, we went to Mayrau Mine. My great-grandfather used to work there. Kladno
used to be a large coal-mining community but the coal reserves have gone are
small now and all mines are closed as of 2004.
The
Mayrau Mine is in Vinarice just outside of Kladno. It was built in the mid 19th
century and is more than 500 meters deep. We took just a couple of pictures as
there was a fee for picture taking. I forgot that many places here in the Czech
Republic charge a fee for taking photos with your own camera. Steve thought
that was a rip-off.
