Czech Republic At Last

April 17, 2014

The check-out time  at the hotel was 10 AM and Ivana called for a taxi to pick us up then. We had a little over an hour before our train to Prague so we went to McDonald’s at the train station for breakfast. They had some nice breakfast meals with ham, cheese, scrambled eggs and fresh bread and rolls. We at and then walked upstairs to the platform.

Our train was there early and we boarded. It was nice to get on early without having to rush with all of our luggage. The car we got on was older and there was not electric plug. This was disappointing as it helped to have the computer available for Hannah to watch a movie. Otherwise she was swinging like a monkey off the luggage racks.

After the train left, we walked around the train and I found a newer car that had plugs and a cabin (compartment) reserved for families with kids. No one was in the cabin and we decided to move.
It was a nice train ride, especially through the Sumava Mountains in southern Czech Republic. We could tell that once we got into the Czech Republic, everything was not quite as perfectly manicured as it was in Austria. It felt good to be closer to our destination.

We arrived in Prague and stopped at the exchange office at the station to get some Czech crowns. From there we decided to take a taxi to Kladno. I made the mistake of not getting an estimate on the price ahead of the time (frankly, it never occurred to me it would cost THAT much). I knew it was going to be expensive but when the price came to about $180, I was not prepared for that. Unfortunately, what was done was done and we just need not to do it again.

We arrived at our destination in Kladno exactly one month after leaving Tennessee.
