Learning Time

Our trip has been a major learning opportunity for the kids on so many levels. As we travel, we learn about geography, history, languages and cultures. There is no better way than to experience this first hand. Stevie and Hannah are picking up quite a few Czech words. We have cut down on book time but we still sit dow a little for math, language, reading and writing.
It is my understanding that homeschooling is legal in the Czech Republic (unlike in the neighboring Germany where homeschoolers are persecuted) but it is not very common. Pretty much the first couple of questions that come out of anyone's mouth when we mention that we homeschool is "Who or how do they check up on you? Who makes sure you are teaching the right stuff?" We explain the wonderful freedom we have in educating our children. People find it shocking that we can choose our own curriculum (or none at all) and that we get to grade our own kids.
