Okor Castle

Saturday, April 26, 2014

We drove to the Okor Castle (ruins of the castle) about 12 miles from my mom’s place. We arrived around lunch and had lunch in a restaurant right by the entrance. After lunch we bought tickets to see tha castle and went on a guided tour.

The oldest part of the castle (the tower) dates back to 1290. The castle itself was built in 1359. It was remodeled in 1500 and abandoned in 1770. It has been falling apart since 1770 and around 1880 a large portion of the tower fell down (due to water leaks). The local residents have removed the stone to be reused for building material. It has been managed by the Czech Tourist Association for most of the 20th century and since the 1990s the town (village) owns and manages the castle.

After the tour, we walked back down hill to a small fair. The kids rode a merry go round and another ride. We took a few pictures and drove back to Kladno.

Hannah fell asleep and to give her more time, we stopped at a gas station to fill up before going to Sletiste park. We woke Hannah up at Sletiste that it was time to go ride the scooters. We played for a little while and the kids rode the scooters. It was very crowded since it was a weekend and the weather was very nice.

We stopped at Tesco and Billa to get some groceries on the way home and got home pretty tired.
