Close but no cigar, yet....

Well, today was a little of a roller coaster kind of day.  We got up, made a short list of things to do on this overcast Saturday.  List =  (1) go look at a property on Estep Hollow Road in the Stoney Creek area of Elizabethton (2) Haircut for Steve (3) go price new double wide homes at Clayton Homes and (4) go look at properties in the area of Hwy 19W.  We called the people who listed their 7 acres farm on the craigslist ad and made arrangements to meet with them at 11:30 a.m.
This elderly couple had two very nicely kept 3 bedroom two bath manufactured homes with two nice detached garages and a large RV parking enclosure.  The property was beautiful.  It had several mature apple and cherry trees that were able to produce fruit.  As a matter of fact, Stevie and Hannah gorged themselves on some apples that they were able to pick from one of the trees.  They had a blast running around the well manicured yard and eating apples.  The couple were asking $239,000 for the land and two homes.  We told them that we would sleep on it and let them know.

I am not suppose to take tasty apples from strangers!!!!!!!

So after the kids fed the livestock, we went back to town, got some food at Wendys and parked in the parking lot of the Clayton Manufactured Mobile Home Center.  While we ate our lunch me and Kat discussed how much we liked the property and how the extra home could be rented out giving us some instant income.  We decided to go back and make an offer of $210,000.  That would leave us a little wiggle room to get a tractor for the farming we intended to do.   We met with Bob and Linda again and made our offer.  They were willing to go down to $220,000 but no further.  We had intended spending no more that $250,000 for our dream home/land and this was not quite that.  It did have great potential for a location for us to settle in and start our lives in Tennessee.  We could live there while building our businesses and/or careers and then have two rentals for additional income.   But alas, it was not meant to be.
We were both kind of heartbroken over the impasse and left the offer with them.  We immediately continued looking for other properties in this beautiful area to lift our spirits a bit.  I was proud of us for sticking to our plan for buying properties.  It is very easy to fall in love with the land and homes here in Tennessee and before you know it you are buying something for more than it is actually worth.  That night, we watched a funny animated movie called "  The Croods" with the kids.  We all had a good laugh and the Kat put the kids to bed.  Tomorrow is another day........
