Looking at houses

Thursday, October 3, 2013
We ate breakfast we cooked at the hotel. It was a nice change after all the eating out. We really enjoyed it. We stopped by the bank to pick up money to pay our rent and deposit for the apartment in the morning. The apartment is basically in between Elizabethton and Johnson City. It is a family owned complex and the owners live in their own home right on the same property. The units are set up like town-houses with no neighbors above or below. Our building has 6 units, we are right in the middle. It is in a beautiful park-like setting and there is a huge open field behind the building. The owners are really nice and we feel blessed that they were willing to make an exception for us (they normally lease for a minimum of 6 months). The rent is very reasonable.
After we paid our deposit, we met with Judy at the first house we wanted to see. It was in Hampton about 25 minutes from our apartment. We REALLY liked the land and the homeowner has done an amazing amount of work on the house and the property (the house was built in 1940s). If the price was lower, we would have been sold.  The house got it's water from a "spring box" located about 1,000 ft. up the mountain.  The gravity fed water had plenty of pressure to supply the house plus  neighbor's mobile home as well.  The property had 1,000 Christmas trees planted on it, ready to be cut in about two years.  In addition, there was an very old graveyard on a small knoll near the trees.  It appeared at least 200 years old.  It had about 12 flat stones with no writing on them place in the ground in a crude formation.
From there we continued to see properties in Greene County. This part of the trip was rather disappointing. Sadly, one of the homes we went to see was the number 2 on my list from looking at the listings. The house was relatively new and, back when originally put on the market, in much better shape. We did not even go inside.
We stopped at the grocery store on the way home and crashed at the hotel. We cannot wait to move into our apartment. We really do not like the hotel.
