New Friends

It is Saturday, October 19, 2013.  The usual morning routine is accomplished.  We drive to the girls and boys club in Elizabethton where they are having a sale for kid's clothing and toys.  We scored a lot of nice winter clothes for the kids and head over to Stoney Creek where Bob and Linda (owners of our future home) are having a garage sale.  Kids eat apples, Kat buys some homemade Christmas ornaments, Daddy talks guy stuff with Bob and then we head over to the Rocky Mount "Spirit of the Harvest" festival.

At the festival we met up with Kelly, Darin and Alex.  They are very nice and we begin our afternoon exploring an actual settlement from the 1770s of American history.  The festival is based upon the Cobb family that lived on the farm that we were exploring.  There was apple cider making, candle making, doll making, weaving, blacksmithing, farming etc...

Hannah, Stevie and Alex participating in making fresh apple juice in photo above.  Down below they are drinking the benefits of their hard labor.  Home schooling at its best.  Also, our new friends Kelly and Darin.  I hope I spelled their names correctly....

Stevie and Hannah have to dip the fresh wick in the hot wax and hold it for 10 seconds so that the wick gets saturated with wax.  This is candle making 101.  They call it that because that is about how many times you have to get back in line to dip your candle again and again until it is thick enough.

After an afternoon of old time fun, Kelly and Darin suggested eating supper at a place called the "Farmer's Daughter".  It is over in the beautiful Nolichucky area.  It is Saturday and we get there a little early at 4:30 p.m.  The place is slammed, people are parking in the overflow parking and there is an hour plus wait.  All the indications of a great place to eat.  We go next door to the Amish store and do some shopping to kill some time.  We finally get into the restaurant an hour and a half later and the food is great, amazingly similar to the "Ole Barn".   Me and Kat determine that we love both places and vow to eat at them as often as money and time allow.  Man I love Tennessee.  We really enjoyed the day with our new friends and hope to see them again soon.  I think Alex, Stevie and Hannah had a great time wrestling in the grass before dinner.
