Two busy days - looking at properties

Monday

We made plans to meet Judy in Kingsport at 8:30 AM on Monday morning to go look at properties in Rogersville and Bulls Gap. We had several houses on our list to see and also some vacant land. The day started out promising when we saw a home near Devil's Nose peak. It was on a rather steep hill side but the owners had done a great job with the land. They had put in multiple raised garden beds and a greenhouse. The house was very nice and had a wood burning fire place and two beautiful wood burning stoves. The trees on the property were large and mature. But we did not like that the surrounding land was covered in kudzu vines. While we did not see any on the property that was for sale, odds are it will be constant work trying to keep them off. But either way, it was good to start the day on a positive note.
We looked at several other homes but none came close to the first one we saw. We searched for land in the Rogersville area few years ago and we remembered how much we liked the rolling landscape around there. We stopped for lunch downtown Rogersville and then headed towards to Bulls Gap. In this area we were going to look at vacant land.
When we first got here, we got excited about 63 acres on Beech Grove Road. It would have been a great piece of land except for the fact that they recently logged the whole hill side. It was completely stripped. While we were on Beech Grove Road, we saw a for sale by owner sign on the same road. It was really nice 21 acres but the price was too high. We met with the owner and he cannot go down much on the price because of the mortgage he currently has on the land.
The kids love running around all the properties we look at. Here are some pictures from Bulls Gap:

It was about 6 PM by the time we were done and we drove home. We were about an hour away from our apartment.
We have seen about all of the properties that looked promising from Judy's list. We still really like just the very fist one we saw but the asking price is too high. We talked about looking on craigslist next for "for sale by owner" properties. We made plans to see 16 acres in Roan Mountain at 10 AM the next day and left voice messages for a couple other sellers.

Tuesday

We ate breakfast and went to Roan Mountain to look at the 16 acres. We did not like the property (house and land) but we took some time looking at it since the owners made time to show it to us. Next we went to see 20 acres near Elizabethton. The property was at the top of a mountain overlooking Elizabethton. Really beautiful piece of land with an amazing view and a small, immaculate house at the bottom of the hill. The owner put in a driveway to the top, cleared a home site and ran power and water to the top. We really like Carter County and we were talking about this possibly being a property where we could get established while we look for the permanent place (since we do not seem to be finding one just yet).
We also drove by a property in Hampton we found listed on craigslist. We did not like it at all and just as we were leaving, we ran into one of the homeowners in the area. He was a retired deputy from Florida. We talked for a while and then headed back home.
When we got home, Stevie, Hannah, Steve and David played outside in the field behind the house. I cooked supper. After dinner, we watched The Croods. David bought the DVD when it came out and brought it with him. We will probably go to Rutledge tomorrow.
